The #1 ranked Lady Warrior hockey team have ran their unbeaten streak to 13 games.  Over the holiday break they took first place in the Kaposia Classic tournament in South St. Paul.  The recorded a 12 to 3 win over Blake, 3 to 0 win over Hibbing/Chism and a close 2 to 1 win over Hill-Murray.

This past weekend they beat East Grand Forks 5 to 0 and Roseau 6 to 3.

In the Blake game Warroad scored early and often.  They had four first period goals.  Kayla Gardner paced her team with seven points and four goals in the game.

Warroad did on better in the second period with five goals.  Lisa Marvin was second with six (2G, 4A) game points.

Blake scored a goal in each period.  Sierra Hanowski paced Warroad with five assists.

Demi Gardner finished with 2 goals and 2 assists.

The Hibbing game proved to be a better contest.  Kayla Gardner scored two goals and Sierra Hanowski had the other.

Dani Knott got the start for Warroad and faced 20 shots in the game.  Dayton Hilgert has sustained a knee injury that has bothered her all season.  She might have to have surgery on it after the season is over.  Hibbing’s Amanda Klennert saw 34 shots.

Over the Christmas break Lisa Marvin surpassed Gigi Marvin in career assists at Warroad.  The record had been 229 assists.

Warroad then took on Hill Murray in the championship game.  Warroad played the #4 ranked Pioneers earlier in the season and came from behind to score 3 goals in the third period to win 3 to 2.

8th grader, Mariah Gardner score in the first period for the Warriors and her sister, Demi scored in the second.  Demi is currently 9th in the state with 24 assists.

Hilgert faced 24 shots and the Pioneer’s Alexys Woodward saw 19.

This past Friday the Lady Warriors hosted East Grand Forks.  Warroad is currently first in the Greater Minnesota conference with 16 points and EGF is fourth with 9 points.

The game started out with Warroad controlling the play and spending most of the time in the EGF end.  At the 9:28 mark Lisa Marvin (Kayla Gardner, Lynn Astrup) scored on a rebound shot.

Early in the second Period Dani Knott made a nice save.  There was pass from the corner to a girl standing on the post.

Warroad was getting their shots. They had three posts but EGF was doing enough to stay in the game.

Warroad’s Lynn Astrup was called for a tripping penalty.  This did not deter Warroad as they scored a short handed at the 5:44 mark.  While on the forecheck Marvin picked off a pass, fed K. Gardner and she streaked in and top shelved it.

In the last few minutes of the period the play was going back and forth with players from both sides connecting on crisp passes.

EGF was first to make a mistake during this high flying time.  Warroad had a 3 on 1, KG dropped it to Marvin and she planted it in the back of the net.  In the third period Warroad forced their will on the Green Wave.  Five minutes into the period Marvin (K. Gardner, D. Gardner) got the hat trick and you could see the EGF players spirit being broken.

Marvin (K. Gardner, Astrup) followed that up with another goal late in the period.

EGF’s Madi Galstad faced 40 shots and Knott saw 17.
